We are currently interested in receiving personal essays about the realities of conducting research either in Africa or about Africa. Ideally, essays should provide insight into the ethics, the practicalities and the politics of carrying out studies “on the ground”, and in African contexts.
In the past, we have published on studying the Nigerian migrant community in China, and on exploring spirituality among South Sudanese exiles in Uganda. We seek more essays of this kind, but with more focus on the experiences of the researchers themselves. Ultimately, evident in submissions should be some capacity to demystify research procedures and knowledge production particularly as they play out in African contexts.
