The Republic is now accepting submissions for its April/May 2018 issue, in which scholars and experts will critically discuss the ever-evolving interactions between religion and the state.
We expect each submission to elaborate on key issues relevant to the significance of religion to governance across the world’s societies. In light of this, we are especially interested in insightful thoughts on:
⎈ Religion, nationalism and state-building; colonization, religion and decolonization;
⎈ Globalization, religion and contemporary African culture e.g. the pentecostal revolution in Nigeria;
⎈ The significance of spirituality and religion to conflicts and peace-building;
⎈ Law, justice and religion;
⎈ Broader dynamics between religious ideology and governing institutions; and
⎈ The political significance of traditional African religions.
We are looking for analytical and engaging essays, lectures, speeches and book reviews that, without sacrificing academic rigour, can serve as authoritative/definitive subject-matter guides to both scholars and professionals that may have limited knowledge on African affairs.
Overall, we expect submissions ranging between 1,500 words (minimum) and 6,000 words (maximum), and will be accepting first drafts until Sunday 25 February, 2018.
